This oval pink quartz pendant is mounted on a silver frame. The stone belongs to the silicate family, a variety of oxide. With a translucent appearance, it is of a pink colour, ranging from pale to peach pink. Its soft shades make of it a symbol of love, peace and wellness. Pink quartz was formed in magmatic rocks or in hydrothermal vents. It is a common stone found into small fragments on sandy beaches all around the world. Its main deposits are located in Brazil and Madagascar, although it can also be found in Tanzania and the United States.
The stone has been originally exploited since 7,000 B.C. in Mesopotamia. Known by most of the civilisations from different eras, it is often used for the making of jewellery and statuettes. In Egypt, pink quartz was crashed and used as a cosmetics component. It was believed to have softening and purifying properties. Nowadays, it is still widely used in modern cosmetology to delay skin ageing. Mainly composed of silicon, the stone has some amazing properties which preserve skin elasticity and collagen fibres.
In Egyptian mythology, pink quartz was linked to the cult of Isis, Osiris’ spouse and goddess of divine youth. In Roman and Greek mythologies, the stone was associated with Venus and Aphrodite, goddesses of love, seduction and beauty. Romans also used pink quartz for the making of seals. In Eastern culture, it was used for the crafting of statuettes representing Buddha.
